The reasons why visiting Berlin

Berlin is more than the capital of Germany, is more than a modern city, Berlin was, has been and still is the heart of modern and contemporary History. If we consider the period that goes from the end of April 1945 to November 1989, Berlin was the place where the History has left a deep imprint, not only in the land, or in the buldings, but above all in the mind and soul of people living there.

Our decision of proposing our students the visit to this Capital city starts from the idea to propose a walk in the recent history starting from Nazi Berlin tour of the topography of Terror and the third Reich, to the modern architectural buildings of Alexander Plazt, passing through Check Point Charlie and the remains of the Wall that physically reminds us the maddness of dividing a city and the wole European Continent into two parts.

The visit to the Berlin will be preceeded by watching some documentary movies, and reading abstracts from important novels and short stories about people living there.

What can we expect from this school voyage? Probably, we hope our students can breathe a different "air", watch the world around them with another pair of eyes, consider the actual european situation as the fruit of decades of struggles, sufferings, great ideals, victories and defeats, and as John Kennedy said, we would like them to feel themselves Berliner, citizens of our new world.
